As the second grade teacher, Mr. Cunningham motivates students to work hard, think critically, and work independently. His goal as a teacher is to create an exciting, structured, and safe learning environment that guides students to meet or exceed their learning goals.
Mr. Cunningham’s classroom encompasses the whole Courtyard campus! His students may be found learning about plant life cycles in the garden, exploring science in the computer lab or inventing math games in the classroom.
Because Courtyard empowers Mr. Cunningham to teach beyond the curriculum, he spends more time on what interests students most and modifies lessons to fit each class. Technology has opened up new doors for classroom exploration, and Mr. Cunningham takes advantage whenever he can. His class takes virtual field trips throughout the year, traveling to the La Brea Tar Pits, Ellis Island, South AmericanRainforests, and Mount Rushmore.
Of course, Mr. Cunningham also guides his students on exciting real-life field trips. Excursions to science museums, art museums, and theaters are highlights throughout the years. Mr. Cunningham also looks for new destinations that fit his classroom themes and projects.
